Surprisingly, it seems that The Sims 5 will be free when they are released, with an integrated store offering various contents, both free and paid, official or community-created. The so-called "microtransactions" (which allow users to play for free) are subtly making their way, raising questions about the future of the franchise. Previous versions of The Sims have always offered numerous paid kits and expansions, which have contributed to the game's success. This time, Maxis seems to be taking a different approach by releasing a less complete base game, which will gradually expand with DLCs(downloadable content).

Growing Concerns

The transition of Sims 4 to "free-to-play" a few months ago is not unrelated to this decision. Maxis is aware of the appetite of its community for expansions that enhance the gaming experience. However, players are wondering what the base version of Sims 5 will actually offer to make the game profitable.

This situation is sparking alarming scenarios in the minds of fans. The community (around 70 million players, as a reminder) is divided on the issue, but one thing is certain: despite the tempting offer, the free base game at launch is not currently seen as a good omen for the game's quality...

While waiting for more official information about The Sims 5, which won't be released for several years, players are eagerly awaiting future developments. Let's hope that Maxis will find the right balance between the game's free availability and the quality of the expansions to satisfy the many fans of the franchise!
