In front of a packed Arena in Décines, Messmer achieved an impressive feat by hypnotizing 1,113 people at the same time.
On Saturday, February 28, the famous Quebec hypnotist literally plunged the Arena in Décines, near Lyon, into a state of collective trance. In front of nearly 7,000 spectators who came to see his show, Messmer successfully hypnotized 1,113 volunteers simultaneously.
A spectacular performance that surpasses his previous record set in 2023 in Paris with 1,066 participants. In an electric atmosphere, the Lyon public was therefore privileged to witness a new world record for collective hypnosis signed by the one affectionately known as the Fascinator.
A spectacular record… but not officially recognized
Despite this impressive performance, This record of collective hypnosis won't be entered into the Guinness Book. The reason is purely technical: for a record to be officially validated, each participant must be equipped with an EEG headset capable of measuring brain electrical activity to scientifically prove the state of hypnosis. However, the 7,000 spectators present at the Arena in Décines obviously weren't all equipped with this device. As a result: even though Messmer set a new personal record on stage, the performance will remain symbolic. This administrative detail doesn’t take away from the impressive show experienced by the audience in Lyon.
