A historic place undergoing transformation
The Galerie des Terreaux, once a vital connection between Place des Terreaux and the banks of the Saône, closed its doors over three decades ago. Before its reopening, extensive restoration work is needed. The demolition works, scheduled for the summer of 2025, will reveal the original architecture of the gallery, including its magnificent historic glass roof. The renovations, entrusted to Sud Architectes, will take place over several years, with an expected opening in late 2027-early 2028.
The project represents a significant investment of 5.6 million euros, funded by the City of Lyon in partnership with the SEM Patrimoniale du Grand Lyon (SEMpat). This sum will be used to refurbish the gallery, restore its original architecture, and create spaces suitable for repair craftsmen. A lively and dynamic gallery in the heart of the city While awaiting its official reopening, the Galerie des Terreaux will not remain idle. Already animated by the Airt de Famille exhibition between April and June 2024, it will continue to host temporary events throughout the restoration period. These initiatives aim to maintain the interest and commitment of the people of Lyon towards this iconic space in the process of transformation.Voir cette publication sur Instagram

This project to reopen the Galerie des Terreaux as a City of repair artisans fits into a sustainable and innovative approach. It aims not only to revitalize a historic place in Lyon, but also to promote the circular economy and support local artisans. By bringing this gallery back to life, the City of Lyon hopes to create a dynamic and useful space for its residents, while honoring its rich architectural heritage.
