Weather in Lyon: up to 37°C this Tuesday before storms and a sudden temperature drop

Heat will continue to grip Lyon this Tuesday, September 8, 2026, with temperatures reaching up to 37°C expected in the afternoon. Placed on double yellow alert for heatwave and storms, the Rhône region will then experience a dramatic weather shift starting Wednesday.

From the moment of waking up, Lyon enjoys a perfectly clear sky and particularly mild temperatures for early September. At 9am, the thermometer already shows 21°C, with a feels-like temperature of 23°C and humidity still high at 71%. The wind remains almost non-existent, with only 2 km/h coming from the east.

The night didn't really allow Lyonnaise residents to recover from the heat. Temperatures didn't drop below 19°C, a level that confirms the late nature of this hot spell and can make sleeping difficult, especially in exposed homes or in the city center.

Up to 37°C in the afternoon

It's especially in the afternoon that the heat will become frankly overwhelming in Lyon. Around 3pm, the mercury will reach 36°C and could climb up to 37°C at the warmest part of the day. The air will then be much drier, with only 23% humidity. The southern windwill however complicate things a bit with gusts that can reach 57 km/h.

throughout the day. A few clouds will nevertheless begin to appear as the hours go by, announcing the change in weather expected in the evening.

Very cloudy skies and still 29°C in the evening

The heat will struggle to disappear once night falls. Around 9 PM, the thermometer will still show 29°C, while the sky becomes very cloudy. The wind will shift to the northwest and blow around 17 km/h, as humidity gradually rises. Even after midnight, Lyon will remain in a surprisingly warm atmosphere with around 25°C and a 35% risk of showers. In highly urbanized neighborhoods, the heat accumulated by concrete and buildings could heighten this sense of heaviness.

The real change in weather is expected from Wednesday, September 9th. After this day at 37°C, Lyon should experience thunderstorms and rain with nearly 20 mm of precipitation possible throughout the day. Temperatures will drop significantly with only 25°C expected at most, around 12°C less than today. Lows should also return to around 17°C, finally offering a much more breathable night.
