For the first time in its history, the Village Cinema of the Lumière Festival will set up in one of the most iconic buildings of Lyon. From October 10 to 18, 2026, the Hôtel-Dieu, located in the fully restored Grand Hôtel-Dieu from 2019, will become the true beating heart of the festival's 18th edition.
Located right in the city center, between the banks of the Rhône and Place Bellecour, this new gem will offer a prestigious setting for the event envisioned by the Lumière Institute and its director Thierry Frémaux. It's also a way to bring the festival even closer to the people of Lyon, visitors, and the thousands of cinema enthusiasts who flock to the capital of Gaul every year.
A living space of nearly 2,000 m² dedicated to cinema
Much more than just a welcome point., the Village Cinema will be a true meeting and activity hub. On nearly 2,000 m², festival-goers can enjoy dining spaces, a specialized bookstore, and many gathering spots where film lovers, professionals, and curious minds can mingle throughout the day.
The site will also host a rich cultural program with exhibitions, meetings, debates, and various events dedicated to the 7th art. It's a wonderful way to extend the experience between screenings and to experience the festival in a friendly atmosphere that's open to everyone.
An Enhanced International Reach
This new location aims to further increase the visibility of the Lumière Festival. The Village Cinema will notably welcome professionals from the Classic Film Market, as well as international journalists present in Lyon for the entire duration of the festival.
