It’s an old dream of commuters that is finally becoming a reality: starting next December, public transport users around Lyon will be able to say goodbye to the hassle of multiple tickets. The Region and the Metropolis of Lyon, through Sytral Mobilités, have come to an agreement on implementing a single TCL-TER ticket in zones 1 and 2 of the network. Translation: subscribers and occasional travelers will now be able to link a regional train journey with a TCL metro, tram, or bus using just one ticket, priced at €4.40.

A small revolution in regional transport

This advancement is set to be a true game-changer in the daily lives of thousands of people, especially those living in one of the 31 additional municipalities involved, or close to the eight newly added stations in this expanded area. And for once, this project that seemed stuck in administrative limbo has finally surfaced, thanks to some real effort. “We have... “...twisting everyone’s arm,” admits Xavier Odo, president of SMT-AML and mayor of Grigny-sur-Rhône, in comments made to Tribune de Lyon

Please note, this combined ticket doesn’t replace the existing T-Libr subscription for regular users, but it offers a simple and flexible alternative for occasional trips. On the Sytral side, they’re excited and looking ahead. Jean-Charles Kohlhaas, vice-president of the Metropolis and Sytral, is already hoping to advance with a tariff alignment between TCL and TER. While it’s not on the menu yet, a study is planned for 2026. In the meantime, this little tariff revolution promises to make mobility a bit smoother in a region that really needed it.
