A School to Keep the Connection with Ukraine Alive
Every Saturday, from 9am to 3pm, the Joannes Masset municipal school welcomes Ukrainian students divided into four groups according to their age. The goal is to allow them to continue learning Ukrainian while maintaining a tangible connection to their country of origin, alongside their schooling in France.
The classes aren't limited to language learning: literature, history, geography and music help children discover Ukrainian culture more deeply. Traditions also play an important role in this weekly day, with songs, stories and the discovery of the major celebrations that mark the country's cultural life.

By making the municipal facilities of the Joannes Masset school available, the municipality wishes to offer Ukrainian families a setting that allows children to continue to preserve their language and culture.The Ukrainian school will be officially inaugurated this Saturday, October 3rd, after welcoming its first students for the past two weeks. An initiative that gives a new dimension to welcoming Ukrainian families in Lyon, focusing on transmission and education rather than on school integration alone.
For the 67 students, Saturday has become a meeting with a part of their family history, without ever leaving Lyon. Between two weeks of classes in their French school, they find here a language, traditions and a heritage that continue to be part of their daily lives.
