Five years after the demolition of the Monmousseau tower, Vénissieux continues its transformation. This time, the three iconic towers of the Minguettes plateau, along with the smaller building, will vanish from the landscape, according to information from Actu Lyon. The construction site, planned to begin in early 2026, is part of a large-scale transformation plan for the neighborhood led by the Lyon Metropolis. The goal: to modernize the area, improve the quality of life for residents, and turn the page on a bygone era of urban development.
Towers that are slowly emptying of their residents
Out of the more than 170 apartments still in the three towers, nearly 130 are already vacated. Only about forty apartments are still occupied by families awaiting relocation. Alli
Habitat, the social housing provider in charge of the project, assures that the relocation plan is progressing "without difficulties" and should be completed by the end of 2025. This is a crucial period for residents, who are often attached to a neighborhood where they grew up or raised their children.
A Symbolic Demolition to Turn the Page
Once the buildings are demolished, the land will be sold to the Metropolis of Lyon by Alliade and ICF Habitat. But unlike other projects, there are no plans for reconstruction here. These demolitions mark the end of a cycle, that of the large housing complexes from the 60s, symbols of a bygone era. While the excavators are about to erase a piece of history, they are also paving the way for a new vision of the neighborhood: more open, more sustainable, and vibrant.
turning towards the future.
