A Lyon Symbol on the Brink

Since 1872, the Basilica of Fourvière has been watching over Lyon, a witness to history and a spiritual refuge for generations of visitors. But today, its towers, majestically overlooking the city, are showing alarming signs of weakness. A recent study has revealed major structural damage that requires urgent repairs estimated at 2.5 million euros.

The Fourvière Foundation, dedicated to preserving this architectural gem, is raising the alarm: "Without your help, these towers could disappear." And despite the information already shared last year, the situation remains just as concerning.

A race against time is underway

To finance this monumental project, the Fourvière Foundation launched a major fundraising campaign in partnership with the Heritage Foundation in 2023. If the work is to begin in 2025, there is still 1.5 million euros to raise to prevent the worst. It’s not just about walls and stones: restoring Fourvière means preserving a place rich in history, a symbol of faith, as well as culture and connection.

How to help ?

The people of Lyon (and beyond), who are passionate about heritage and visiting tourists can all pitch in to help save this must-see monument. Every donation counts, and solidarity could very well bring Fourvière back to its former glory.
