France is not quite done with the whims of winter. Just as we've put away our boots after the snowfalls, the Goretti storm is already making its appearance. Dubbed a true "weather bomb" according to Actu Lyon, it is set to arrive this Thursday, January 8, bringing fearsome wind gusts. Météo-France has placed several departments on orange alert, while Manche is even on red alert. You could say that the country is bracing for quite a sway.

Rhone placed on yellow alert for high winds

A relatively good news for Lyon and Rhone: the department will be less exposed than others. However, Météo-France has issued a yellow alert for high winds starting tonight and lasting until 9 AM this Friday, January 9. A warning to take seriously, even if it remains below the danger levels observed elsewhere, especially in the Loire or on more exposed heights.

Gusts up to 80 km/h, even more in the mountains

In the Rhône, the wind is really going to make its presence felt. The forecasts predict gusts reaching up to 80 km/h, with local peaks close to 110 km/h in the mountainous areas of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The Monts du Lyonnais could see gusts around 70 km/h, while Lyon and its metropolitan area should experience milder winds, about 45 km/h during the night.

Storm Goretti is not just passing through quickly. On Friday morning, gusts are expected to fluctuate between 40 and 60 km/h across the whole Rhône. And as if that weren't enough, another windy episode is anticipated Saturday afternoon, especially in the western part of the department, with gusts potentially hitting 60 km/h. So, stay cautious!
