Public transport users in Lyon may be shaking in their boots... On March 12th, the transport organizing authority in Lyon, Sytral Mobilités, revealed the name of the new operator for the TCL network for the next ten years. And for the first time, the management of transport has been divided into three distinct entities according to information from Tribune de Lyon and Le Progrès.

A first company will be in charge of operating the "heavy modes" such as metros, trams, funiculars, and the Rhônexpress. A second entity will take care of the bus and trolley network. Finally, a local public company will handle communication, ticketing, park-and-ride facilities, and traveler information.

The RATP at the helm of Lyon's transport

And it's...la RATP, already established in Paris, hit the jackpot by being selected to operate the famous “heavy modes” of the TCL network. This news could really shake things up in the Lyon transport scene, which until now has been used to the omnipresence of Keolis, a subsidiary of SNCF, that will now only manage the buses, trolleys, and ticket control.
