This is the kind of news you really don’t want to read during a heatwave: since Thursday, July 24, swimming has been suspended at Lac des Sapins, the star water spot in the northwest of Lyon. Strong heatwaves over the past few days have caused temperatures to rise and… the water quality to drop, leading to a ban on swimming, according to the latest analyses from the ARS. This is a bit of a blow for the regular visitors, who flock there as soon as the thermometer hits above 30 °C.

Biological swimming still allowed

But don’t worry, lake lovers: all is not lost. While traditional swimming is on hold, biological swimming is still available. Naturally purified by filtering plants and monitored just as rigorously, it offers a greener and equally refreshing alternative. Plus, it feels a bit like being in a giant nature spa, complete with chlorophyll vibes in your swimsuit.

And to avoid disappointing visitors too much, the site has also announced a parking fee adjustment. The high summer rates are a thing of the past: we’re switching to low season prices with €5 starting at 10 AM, €3 from 1 PM, and even just €2 after 3 PM. A nice little perk for those coming to enjoy the lush surroundings, even without swimming.

So yes, we’ll have to wait a bit before we can dive in freely, but in the meantime, towels can still be spread out in the eco-friendly area. And that's always a good deal!
