Scheduled after the municipal elections in March 2026, the announcement took a little shortcut, as revealed by Le Progrès. In the midst of a discussion about dance, the host couldn’t hide his joy: “I am very proud to join the Fresque des Lyonnais. I am very attached to Lyon.” A declaration full of nostalgia that confirms his strong bond with the capital of Gaul.

A choice supported by the people of Lyon themselves

Behind this upcoming appearance is a genuine popular vote. According to the workshop Cité Création, responsible for the project, Stéphane Bern came in second place just behind Wendy Renard, with 405 votes out of 4,553. This is a direct recognition from the people of Lyon.

Stéphane Bern will not be placed just anywhere on the mural. He is set to appear in the lower part, taking the spot currently held by Bernard Pivot, who will be moved higher up. A little game of artistic musical chairs, showing the respect given to great figures from Lyon, both past and present.

A "kid" before becoming a small screen star

Behind the star presenter is, above all, a true Lyon native. Born near the Tête d'Or park, son of a Croix-Roussien, Stéphane Bern grew up in Lyon before studying at EM Lyon in Écully. Long before Secrets d'Histoire and television sets, he was already wandering the streets of the city with a deep attachment to his roots.

Stéphane Bern is also one of the biggest defenders of the city. Between his support for the work at Fourvière, the renovation of the greenhouses in the Tête d'Or park, and the heritage mission, the host is multiplying concrete commitments. “I consider myself a gone; it’s part of my DNA,” he proudly sums up. This emblematic work, which now includes 36 personalities, confirms his role as a cultural showcase in the open air. And let’s be honest: seeing Mr. Heritage in XXL style on the walls of Lyon is quite a sight.
