This is what we call a meteoric rise. In just one year, the town of Simandres, located about twenty kilometers south of Lyon, has jumped 435 spots in the ranking of the most livable villages in France. This achievement has allowed it to reach the ninth place in the Rhône department for communities with 250 to 2,000 residents. For its mayor, who has been in office since 2020 and was interviewed by Actu Lyon, it is a "well-deserved reward" after several years of efforts to energize the village and improve the quality of life for its residents.
With 1,886 residents counted, Simandres might fly under the radar on the map. And yet, this little green spot, well-connected by the A46 and A7, is attracting more and more people. Its appeal is no accident: the town invests in concrete and useful projects for its residents. Since last year, a bike path has been under construction to allow students to safely reach the Saint-Symphorien-d’Ozon College as part of the Community of Municipalities' bike plan. This initiative strengthens Simandres' commitment to soft and eco-friendly mobility.

A community that invests in the well-being of its residents
In terms of urban development, the village keeps on growing. Thirty new homes were built in 2024, and even more are planned this year to welcome families drawn by the peaceful living environment and the closeness to Lyon. The municipality hasn't forgotten its essential infrastructure: its medical center, established in 2018, has around ten practitioners, and the primary school has just received a well-deserved refresh. The icing on the cake is that the library, deemed too small, will be transformed into a media library, providing a more modern cultural space better suited to the residents' needs.
If Simandres is so appealing, it’s because it manages to blend dynamism and tranquility.Far from the hustle and bustle of Lyon but close enough to enjoy it, this town checks all the boxes for a lovely place to settle down. And given its spectacular rise in the rankings, this is just the beginning of its success.
