In Lyon, drivers will need to adjust their plans. The famous Fourvière tunnel will be completely closed to traffic during four key periods in May: from the 7th to the 11th, from the 13th to the 18th, from the 22nd to the 26th, and from the 29th of May to the 1st of June. Each time, the closures will take place from the evening until Monday morning, blocking a strategic route for traffic in Lyon.
A whole network is under pressure. The restrictions apply to the M6 and M7 routes between Valvert and the city center, as well as a section of the A7 between Pierre-Bénite and Saint-Fons, heading towards Paris-Marseille. As a result: a domino effect is expected on the overall traffic in the metropolis.
Major works to save time
Behind these closures, there's a strategic plan.
en rodée : doing everything at the same time to speed things up. On the agenda is the repair of the Pierre-Bénite viaduct, complete maintenance of the tunnel, and interventions in the Perrache troughs. The tunnel will therefore be closed continuously, day and night, to carry out the operations without breaks and to allow for the drying of materials. Efficient, but radical. To avoid total chaos, detour routes will be set up... without a guarantee of smooth traffic. Motorists will be encouraged to take the eastern route via the A46 or the N346. A logical solution on paper, but it could quickly become congested during rush hours. Clearly, you'll need to anticipate or rethink your habits.
