A new ticket for Lyon
The magnetic metro ticket we have all gotten used to will bid farewell on Thursday, February 15, 2024! In its place? Lighter, cardboard tickets, and most importantly, contactless. The goal is to only purchase one rechargeable card, like a subscription, instead of constantly throwing away individual tickets.

Also, the magnetic strip tickets tended to demagnetize when in contact with coins or phones! A problem that should no longer occur. Besides that, as Edwige Besse-Barci, the director of equipment services at Sytral Mobilité, explains in an article for Lyon Capitale: ""It's just the format that will be different, but it will still be a rechargeable unit title."
A system already known in other cities
This type of ticket already exists in Bordeaux, Lille, Rennes, and Toulouse. This rechargeable ticket will be charged in addition to the fare... It is worth noting that even in Paris, the metro tickets we were familiar with are also disappearing.
A new card will have a limited lifespan and can be recharged 10 times, for a maximum of 100 tickets. You can easily say that a new era is underway! This novelty should also put an end to the generosity of Lyon, that of leaving your used but still valid ticket in front of the metro entrance gate for another user to use.
