A huge blow for the Parrots Park in Bren, just over an hour from Lyon. After 25 years of welcoming and preserving hundreds of macaws, cockatoos, and African greys, the establishment has been forced to close its doors. This decision was made by the prefecture of Drôme, which claims the park did not comply with the administrative regulations for such facilities. The manager, Jérôme Vuillamy, sees this situation as an absolute injustice, according to information shared by Actu Lyon.

For several months, the park has been facing an administrative battle to try and get into compliance. But despite the submitted documents and a deadline granted in June 2024, the departmental directorate for population protection (DDPP) deemed that the regularization was insufficient. As a result: a decree issued on February 26 now prohibits the park from showcasing its birds to the public. This drastic decision robs the site of its only source of revenue, plunging its future into total uncertainty.

A sudden closure and threatened jobs

The manager does not hide his dismay. In a heartfelt message posted on social media, he expresses his confusion over this abrupt closure and denounces a lack of dialogue with the authorities. He reminds everyone that, despite the decree, the animals still need to be fed and cared for.

cute;s, and that employees' salaries must be secured. But with ticket sales closed, how can activity be maintained? A Kafkaesque situation that could lead to even more severe legal action, or even the sealing of the facilities if the guidelines are not followed.

Behind this issue, there is also the struggle of a man emerging. Jérôme Vuillamy shares that he has experienced moments of intense distress due to the administrative and financial difficulties that have accumulated since 2021. Only his responsibility towards his parrots and his family has kept him from falling completely. Now, he intends to take the matter to the administrative court to try to...save what can still be saved.
