In Villeurbanne, cranes are out and excavators are revving up their engines for a project that's going to completely reshape a part of the Lyon metropolitan area. Its name? La Filature. A nod to the industrial history of the former ACI (Auto Châssis International) factory, but above all, it's a grand project that will transform this corner of Villeurbanne nestled between the city center and the Doua campus, as explained by Actu Lyon. BNP Paribas Immobilier and Gingko are the co-developers of this ambitious project.

700 homes, commercial spaces, a daycare, and a tramway
Here, on over 5 hectares, a piece of city is coming to life! A mini-metropolis within the metropolis with 700 homes, more than a third of which are social housing, spaces for economic activities, a municipal daycare, and a brand new stop on the T6 tramway. In short, it's a fantastic way to give a fresh face to the area and connect Villeurbanne even more to the vibrant heart of Lyon.

A first residence ready by the end of 2026
And the timing has already started: the very first stone of the senior residence Aurea was laid last April 8th, with delivery expected by the end of 2026. The rest of the projects will roll out until 2028, featuring student housing, green spaces, shops, and even affordable housing options (perfect for those dreaming of owning a home at a great price).
The cherry on top: starting from the first quarter of 2026, the extension of the T6 will serve La Filature, connecting the East Hospitals to La Doua in just 20 minutes, with transfers to metro line A and trams T1, T3, T4, and T9. So, by 2028, Villeurbanne will truly be transformed!
