If you’re used to zooming down the A46 towards Lyon, it’s time to slow down a bit. Since April 10th, two new autonomous speed cameras, also known as construction zone radars, have been installed near the Sermenaz viaduct, between Rillieux-la-Pape and Neyron, according to information from Lyon People. What’s the goal? To make everyone slow down who often confuses the highway with a Formula 1 track.
The authorities are not joking anymore. In the middle of a construction zone on this heavily trafficked road, the speed limit has been drastically lowered: 70 km/h instead of the usual 130. Yes, we know, it stings a bit. But it’s not just to lighten your pockets; these cameras are here to ensure the safety of both workers and drivers. Because a construction site on a viaduct is definitely not the ideal place for speeding.
Radars that will be removed during...
And the year
Specifically, the radar on the Paris-Lyon side will remain in place until July 3. On the other side, towards Lyon-Paris, you'll have to wait (or rather, drive wisely) until October 10 before hoping for a reprieve. Until then, the beeps are going to pour in, and the mailboxes might just overheat.
Moral of the story? If you want to avoid funding the next coffee break for the State by collecting fines, we invite you to keep an eye on your speedometer. Especially as you approach Lyon, where staying alert is key. Because getting flashed is all good... unless it's your wallet that takes the hit.
