This isn’t a horror movie; it’s the reality!
Residents of the États-Unis neighborhood: the sidewalks are littered with dead rats. Since traps were set up at the end of July to tackle the alarming increase of rodents, the carcasses are piling up in public spaces. It’s a surreal and everyday sight for locals, who no longer know where to step, or where to let their children walk. When pests nibble away at community life
The situation is such that some residents have seen their daily lives turned upside down by this invasion. Djessim, a local resident, has had to pause his professional activities. The rats are climbing into buildings, sneaking into cars, and even gnawing on internet cables. The nuisances are visible, loud... and frankly disgusting.
If the rats seem to have chosen summer for their annual outing, it’s no coincidence. According to a pest control technician, the rodents flee the sewers during the summer.
to search for food and freshness on the surface. As a result, the streets become their playground, and the neighborhood, their new HQ.A Double-Edged Rodent Control
While traps have managed to catch over 400 rats, they've also triggered another alert: the danger to children and pets. Poorly placed, at ground level and without protection, some still contain poison. One resident recounts having to stop children from touching a box just in time. Others mention dogs that narrowly escaped poisoning. This is far from a miracle solution.
In the face of residents' anger, Grand Lyon Habitat assures that dead rats are collected three times a week. But the damage is done: the neighborhood feels trapped in a vicious cycle of living and dead rats, health risks, and poorly managed traps. The town hall, on the other hand, is calling for.and no longer feeding stray animals or throwing trash on the ground. In the meantime, residents navigate between disgust and frustration, in a neighborhood where this scourge is now gnawing at daily life.
