The saga of the Textile Museum continues, and it seems to be dragging on quite a bit. In 2019, Laurent Wauquiez put 24 million euros on the table to recover the "key" to the site and promised an ambitious revival. Now it's 2026, and the project is still stuck.

In 2021, the first project signed by architect Rudy Ricciotti was unveiled. It was a bold proposal that certainly stirred up reactions from the locals. In March 2022, the filing of the building permit created friction between the City and the Region. Ultimately, the project was rejected. Back to square one.

Delays Piling Up and a Vague Timeline

Since then, announcements have been coming in... and the deadlines keep stretching. In 2023, the Region presented a new draft, already two years behind the original schedule. Then, just a few weeks later, the regional executive pushed the delivery date even further, now suggested for the 2028-2029 horizon, with demolition work touted as imminent.

In a letter dated February 4th, Mayor Grégory Doucet officially addresses the Region. The City reminds that it issued a demolition permit in January 2024. However, demolition has been postponed to the end of 2025, while some rooms are temporarily reopening for exhibitions. A middle ground that keeps the suspense alive!

Institutional dialogue or political tug-of-war?

The mayor is asking for clarifications on the final content of the project and its timeline, especially since no new building permit has been filed. Several residents find themselves stuck in their process.residential, with the value of their properties hanging in the balance due to the uncertainty of the construction.

A month after the letter, the town hall states that it has not received any concrete response. In response to Tribune de Lyon, the Region aims to reassure and promises to keep the City and partners informed as things progress. They declare that their ambition remains intact: to offer the Museum of Fabrics a revival worthy of its history and international reputation.
