In Lyon, the printing museum is turning a new page. And not just any page: it’s a chapter of deep transformation, blending heritage and modernity, to give this unique place all the visibility it deserves. Nestled in the heart of the Presqu'île in a stunning Renaissance mansion, this discreet museum, rich with six centuries of graphic creation, is about to reveal itself in a brand new light. Closed since June 1st, it's entering an extensive renovation period — at least 20 months — aimed at refreshing both the space and its cultural offerings.

A project blending restoration and deep changes
On one hand, we are restoring. The 16th-century French ceiling in the future reception hall will regain its former glory. Tired boilers and windows will be replaced with more understated features, in line with the City’s ecological ambitions. On the other hand, we are rethinking. This is more than just an aesthetic facelift; it’s about redesigning the entire museum experience, creating new exhibition spaces, mediation areas, and welcoming spots for visitors. The museum is no longer just for the initiated: families, school groups, curious weekend explorers, and young generations are now the focus of a program aimed at making the history of printing more vibrant and accessible than ever.

With 5.4 million euros committed by the City and support from the State for the restoration of the classified building, this project is much more than a heritage site: it’s a cultural manifesto. Join us in spring 2027 to turn this new page and (re)discover a museum that is bolder, brighter, and more vibrant than ever.
