The former president of OL once again emerges as the clear favorite in the race for the mayor of Lyon. A few weeks after a previous poll with similar results, a new study conducted by Opinion Way for Lyon Mag and Radio Espace (to be published on October 31) confirms the trend noted two weeks earlier by the Veria institute: Jean-Michel Aulas significantly leads over his competitors. With 47% of the voting intentions from the first round, he is ahead by 23 points over Grégory Doucet, supported by an alliance of PS, PCF, and Place Publique. This colossal gap illustrates the exhaustion of the ecological camp in the face of a right-wing candidate with a more unifying message.

The poll reveals a clear fragmentation within the left camp, unable to compete with Aulas's rise. The unyielding candidate Anaïs Belouassa-Cherifi drops to 10%, which is 5 points less than in the previous poll.

In the latest survey, Nathalie Perrin-Gilbert, a well-known local figure, holds steady at 7%. Georges Képénékian, former mayor of Lyon, drops to 3%, confirming the struggle for centrist candidates to make their mark in this race. On the right, Alexandre Humbert-Dupalais, representing the RN and the union of the right, is projected to receive 8% of the votes, but isn’t posing a threat to Aulas’ supremacy.

Young people are drawn to Doucet, while seniors remain loyal to Aulas

The Doucet-Aulas duel clearly highlights a generational divide. Among 18-24 year-olds, Grégory Doucet remains popular, garnering 37% of voting intentions against 30% for Nathalie Perrin-Gilbert. However, the trend flips dramatically once voters reach their 40s: Jean-Michel Aulas scoops up 48% of the votes among those aged 40-54, 67% among 55-64 year-olds, and 58% among those 65 and older. The image of an experienced, pragmatic, and unifying candidate seems to attract older voters, who view him as a reassuring figure for Lyon’s future.

According to the survey, Jean-Michel Aulas would win hands down against Grégory Doucet in the second round. With 61% of the votes compared to 39% for the outgoing mayor, the victory for the former head of OL would be clear and decisive. This score, while symbolic at this stage, confirms the momentum that has been building for several months. Now the question is whether Grégory Doucet, who has yet to officially declare his candidacy, will be able to turn the tide in the weeks to come.

A triumphant right also in the Lyon Metropolis

The wave of the right doesn't stop at the doors of City Hall. In the Lyon Metropolis, the Opinion Way survey also shows the right leading, with Véronique Sarselli (LR) at 36%, well ahead of the outgoing ecologist president Bruno Bernard, who is stuck at 27%. The National Rally, led this time by Tiffany Joncour, would score 20%, ahead of the LFI list led by deputy Idir Boumertit. This sets the stage for a fierce electoral battle ahead!

the entire Lyon area, where the political color seems truly ready to turn blue.
