Barely elected, Grégory Doucet didn’t waste any time looking ahead. In a conversation with the new president of the Lyon Metropolis, Véronique Sarselli, he proposed that Lyon host the ice competitions of the 2030 Winter Olympics. This idea is anything but trivial, especially since the overall organization of these Games is still being put together.

As for the infrastructure, uncertainty is growing. The result: other cities are starting to raise their hands. And Lyon, with its existing facilities like the LDLC Arena, already checks several boxes.

In this case, coordination between the city hall and the Metropolis of Lyon will obviously be key. If Véronique Sarselli remains cautious, she is not completely dismissing the proposal. A strategic alliance could weigh in against the Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, currently in charge of the project. The upcoming weeks will be crucial in shaping the map of Olympic sites.

The final decision is expected by the end of June, with decisions being made as early as April. Between plan A, plan...B… or plan for a surprise in Lyon, everything remains open. One thing is for sure: if Lyon officially joins the race, the capital of the Gauls could well score big and gain international visibility worthy of the biggest sports stages. And let’s admit, seeing hockey or figure skating in Lyon in the heart of winter would look absolutely fantastic.
