Barely settled in as the head of the Lyon Metropolis, Véronique Sarselli finds herself faced with an exceptionally busy list of requests. In this document titled « Cooperation City of Lyon – Metropolis of Lyon 2026-2032 » consulted by Actu Lyon, Grégory Doucet lays out his vision for the major projects he wants to see move forward quickly.

Among the priority projects is the restructuring project for the right bank of the Rhône. Long championed by environmentalists, this ambitious undertaking aims to transform the riverbanks into more pleasant spaces for pedestrians, cyclists, and local activities, while further reducing the space for cars.

Metro 24/7 and the abandonment of metro line E

Transportation plays a central role in the claims of the mayor of Lyon. Grégory Doucet is particularly keen on experimenting with 24-hour metro service during the weekends. This measure would meet the needs of night owls, night workers, and the cultural sector.

Another sensitive topic: the E metro line. While this project has been a point of debate for several years, the Lyon mayor is clearly urging the Metropolis to abandon it. This stance is likely to spark intense discussions within the metropolitan executive, as the topic divides elected officials and residents of western Lyon.

Cleanliness, culture, and the Festival of Lights

Beyond transportation, the City of Lyon is also seeking more financial support for several key areas. The mayor is asking for a strengthening of resources dedicated to urban cleanliness, a topic that residents often point out. Culture is also among the stated priorities. Grégory Doucet wants to see more investment in cultural initiatives.Increase the financial participation of the Metropolis to support major cultural events in Lyon, including the very popular Festival of Lights, a true international showcase for the city.

While the dialogue remains open, initial statements indicate that the relationship between the two executives will be closely monitored. For her part, Véronique Sarselli assures that she is carefully studying this roadmap while reminding that Lyon, despite its status as a central city, cannot be considered the only priority of the Metropolis. «Lyon is the central city but not the center of the world », she declared, calling for respect for the 58 municipalities that make up the intercommunal structure.
