The return to Lyon could turn into a real day of trouble for the TCL network. The inter-union group CGT, CFDT, Unsa, and FO has filed a strike notice for September 8, according to information from BFM Lyon. All modes of transport – bus, metro, tram, and funicular – are affected, although the exact extent of the movement is yet to be defined.
Exhausted staff
The unions denounce a continuous decline in working conditions and stagnant wages. “We don’t enjoy going on strike, but management remains silent while resignations keep increasing,” shares Riad Marzouki, bus driver and general secretary of CGT Keolis. There’s a sense of unease, demotivation, and a loss of attractiveness in the profession.er feeding social anger.
Towards a significant movement ?
At the heart of the conflict, a salary demand that has people gritting their teeth. The unions are asking for a 7% increase, but the management has only offered 1%. A drop in the bucket, according to the unions, especially in light of rising living costs and increasing workloads on the Lyon network.
The mobilization in September could surpass that of June 23rd, which already saw 1,100 strikers. This time, Keolis and RATP DEV are joined in the same call, broadening the impact to all TCL lines. The unions do not rule out additional strike days to keep the pressure on Keolis, RATP DEV, and Sytral.
