Attention Sunday swimmers, lounging beachgoers, and those nostalgic for a more aquatic Lyon: the City is organizing its very first "floating swim on the Rhône", and it’s no joke! On Sunday, June 29, as part of the festival Between Rhône and Saône, Lyon residents will be allowed – legally this time – to dive into the water for a 400-meter descent in the legendary river, according to information reported by Actu Lyon. Let’s just say we haven’t seen anything like this since the days when kids learned to swim before they even knew how to read.
A supervised, free, and unpolluted swim
Supervised, free (but registration is required...n), this experience promises to be as refreshing as it is symbolic. In groups of 20, participants – aged at least 10 years – will take off every 15 minutes from the north of the Berges park. And no worries: everything is designed to prevent drowning or general panic. Buoys will be provided, the course is secured, and pros will be keeping a watchful eye like caring pilot fish. On the pollution side, the town hall assures: the analyses are good, firefighters and police are already swimming there regularly, and no skin has melted yet.

Behind this exciting swimming event, there's a strong political message: returning the river to the people of Lyon after decades of prohibition. And why not pave the way for a real urban swimming experience by 2027 in Confluence, as promised? In the meantime, let's enjoy a delightfully crazy Sunday, a bit riverine, and totally Lyonnais!
