By 2028, a new giant footbridge will span the Rhône to connect Lyon Gerland to Oullins. According to information from Actu Lyon, the Metropolis of Lyon is preparing to carry out an ambitious project: the construction of a huge pedestrian and cycling bridge that promises to revolutionize connectivity between the two destinations. This 250-meter long and 7-meter wide footbridge, a true engineering feat, will soar above the Rhône and the M7, offering a safe and smooth passage for pedestrians and cyclists. Thanks to this bridge, residents of Oullins, La Mulatière, and Lyon Gerland will finally have a direct link, making their journeys easier and strengthening relationships between the neighborhoods.

In addition to linking two banks of the Rhône, this new infrastructure also symbolizes a real revolution in the urban landscape of the metropolis. Allowing direct access to the large Gerland park and its renowned sports facilities, such as the sports palace, the Gerland stadium, and the Gerland pool which will reopen during the summer of 2024, the bridge will also be an essential link in the future Voie Lyonnaise 9.

Within four years, the residents of Lyon and Oullins will be able to cross the Rhône with ease, enjoying a breathtaking view of the river and the city.
