The Mail Street, the main artery of the Croix-Rousse neighborhood in Lyon, is getting ready for a radical transformation. Since January, this iconic street has begun a major metamorphosis. The City of Lyon and the Metropolis have decided to pedestrianize it, joining the growing trend of friendly and safe streets. The main objective of this pedestrianization: create a more welcoming and accessible urban space for residents and visitors, turning Mail Street into a true destination.

A true destination in Croix-Rousse

During these works, which should be completed by the summer of 2024, the sidewalks will be widened, leveled, and adorned with Lyonnais cobblestones, adding a touch of charm to the whole. Benches and bollards will also be installed to provide resting and relaxation spaces. Despite these major changes, access for deliveries will still be possible, but in the opposite direction of the current traffic flow, thus maintaining the commercial activity of the street.

A pedestrianized and energized neighborhood

The merchants in the neighborhood welcome this initiative with enthusiasm. For them, the pedestrianization of Rue du Mail represents a unique opportunity to energize the neighborhood and attract more visitors. With its imminent transformation, Rue du Mail is about to become the new must-visit spot in Croix-Rousse, offering a unique blend of historical charm and urban modernity, where it will be pleasant to stroll, discover, and fully experience the lively atmosphere of this iconic neighborhood in Lyon.
