It is at the next municipal council meeting, scheduled for March 21st, that the fate of this ambitious project will be sealed as explained by Lyon Capitale. But already, minds are buzzing and imaginations are ignited at the idea of seeing this new facet of Parc de la Tête d'Or, the green gem of the City of Light, come to life.

Designed by architect and landscapist Denis Bühler in 1857, the Botanical Garden is now home to over 13,000 plant species, of which 900 are unfortunately threatened with extinction. In response to this, the city of Lyon has decided to launch a major renovation project, as part of a comprehensive plan to preserve the city's green heritage.

At the heart of this ambitious project is a clear intention to restore the "botanical school" sector of the garden, in line with current botanical teachings. But far from being limited to a strictly scientific approach, this renovation also aims to be a tribute to ethnobotany, offering visitors an intoxicating journey through the history of plants across the centuries.

With themes as varied as agriculture, medicine, textiles, and even gastronomy being explored, curious minds will gain a new perspective on Lyon's rich botanical history. Led by the Aménagement et Paysage department of the Direction Biodiversité et Nature en Ville, this monumental project will span over several years, with an initial investment of 250,000 euros this year, followed by an additional budget of 300,000 euros in 2025.
