Preply, a language learning platform, surveyed 1,500 people across the country to find out their favorite accent. And unsurprisingly, the southern accent takes the lead with 42% of the votes. Marseille, Toulouse, Provence... Their sunny sounds and cheerful vibes melt the hearts of the French.

The Southern Accent Shines Bright

Right behind it, we have the Basque accent with 27%! It seems that warm and sunny accents are quite popular, while ours... let’s just say it's a bit overlooked. And if you thought we could take comfort in third place, think again. It goes to... no one! A staggering 12% of the French simply don't like any accent. Ouch!

The Lyon accent is hard on the ears

Even more surprising: 10% of respondents prefer the Parisian accent. We knew there were questionable tastes out there, but this... And to top it off, the Breton accent even comes in ahead of us with 8% of the votes. Finally, here we are, right at the bottom of the ranking, tied with the Norman accent, garnering only 6% of the votes. So, Lyonnais, it seems our accent is not as favored. But hey, as they say, tastes and colors... We cheer ourselves up by reminding that our city is still at the top in many other areas (and that the pélo expression is one of the most appreciated in France according to another study)!
