Lyon locals are soon going to rediscover a brand new space! Joseph-Serlin Street, connecting Terreaux Square to Jean-Moulin Quay, is set to undergo a major transformation. Currently bustling with buses and cars, it will become a pedestrian zone where traffic will be completely reimagined.
This project, led by the Metropolis and the City of Lyon, is part of the "Presqu'île à Vivre" program, aiming to give more space to pedestrians and enhance the quality of life in the city center. It's a big challenge, especially knowing that no fewer than 50,000 people cross this area every day. Ensuring safety in the sector is therefore a priority, particularly after the tragic accident in 2019 when a teenager was fatally struck by a TCL bus.
Work set to begin in June
In June, the first phase of work will kick off with the renovation of underground networks.Sure! Here's the translation: The Joseph-Serlin street will become a peaceful space, enhanced with benches and greenery, including the planting of trees to create a more pleasant environment for passersby. Another major change: bus traffic will be permanently moved to the Grenette/Cordeliers area.
With this transformation, a whole part of the city center is moving towards a softer and safer environment. It's a breath of fresh air for pedestrians and an evolution that will undoubtedly reshape the face of the Presqu'île.
