A true piece of Lyon's commercial heritage is disappearing. Located at 1 Place Saint-Nizier, right in the heart of the 1st arrondissement, the shop Jet Modélisme will close its doors permanently on February 28, due to the lack of a buyer, according to Progrès. This announcement pulls at the heartstrings of model-making enthusiasts, as well as everyone who grew up with the smell of wood, plastic, and miniature dreams.

For 65 years, Jet Modélisme has been a beloved spot for enthusiasts of miniature cars, boats, and planes. Model kits, miniature models, precision tools, rare parts… This was not just a place to shop; it was a place to learn, exchange ideas, and pass on knowledge. The store felt like one of those timeless shops, far away from online shopping and express deliveries.

A Lyonnaise story that began in 1961

The Jet Modélisme adventure began in 1961 at Rue du Président-Édouard-Herriot, in the 2nd arrondissement. Due to its success, the shop moved in 1966 to Rue de la Fromagerie, in the 1st arrondissement, before finally settling in 1972 at Place Saint-Nizier, its iconic address. A journey that reflects the essence of local shops from the past, built on perseverance and passion.

Created by Alexandre Sellem, the shop has welcomed many generations of loyal customers. But habits have changed, and the number of visitors has gradually dwindled. Despite their efforts, no buyer has come forward. The family had no choice but to lower the curtain, and it was an emotional day. It's a very sad ending for an iconic spot in Lyon, which is now losing yet another treasured piece of its commercial heritage...
