The original Alpes 2030 project relied on a clear geographical distribution: skiing events in the Northern Alps and ice disciplines in the South, around Nice. However, the situation changed after the mayor of Nice, Éric Ciotti, refused to set up a temporary ice rink in the Allianz Riviera stadium to host the men's hockey matches. This decision significantly reshuffled the cards.
