It's a first in Lyon, and even beyond! The Hospices Civils de Lyon have just opened a day hospital entirely dedicated to menopause, integrated into the gynecology-obstetrics department at the Femme-Mère-Enfant hospital. The goal is to provide comprehensive, coordinated, and personalized support for women transitioning into menopause or who are already menopausal, in a structured medical environment that finally meets their real needs.
A public health issue that has long been underestimated
Hot flashes, sleep disturbances, chronic fatigue, joint pain, or gynecological-urinary issues can significantly impact quality of life. In addition, there are increased risks for bone, cardiovascular, and mental health.
A complete care plan in just one day
Gone are the lengthy medical journeys dragged out over months. Designed after a pilot phase, the day hospital now allows for the concentration of evaluations, previously scattered, into a single day and in one location. The goal is clear: to provide a comprehensive view of women’s health during menopause, identify risk factors, and offer tailored solutions, whether medical or not.
Each patient benefits from customized support. Symptom evaluation, biological assessments, imaging, analysis of bone impact, specialized consultations, and psychological advice if needed: everything is designed to address the uniqueness of each situation. E.At the end of the journey, a medical gynecology consultation allows for the proposal of hormonal or alternative treatments, precisely adjusted.
A structured follow-up and continuity of care
Support doesn't stop when you leave the hospital. A follow-up consultation is scheduled three to four months later to assess the effectiveness of the treatments and adjust the care. After that, your regular doctor, gynecologist, or midwife can take over, with the possibility of returning to the hospital if there are any changes. This is a real advancement for women’s health that’s clearer, more humane, and finally coordinated.
