While the thermometer is soaring outside, the museums of Lyon are turning into air-conditioned oases. From Wednesday, August 13 to Monday, August 18, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Gadagne Museum (History of Lyon and Puppets) invite locals and visitors to seek refuge while enriching their minds. Admission is completely free, a fantastic opportunity when the heat makes any outdoor stroll a challenge.
An initiative that could last
If the heatwave sticks around longer, so will the free admission. The city specifies that these special days may be extended depending on the weather alerts. This welcome flexibility allows everyone to continue enjoying art and heritage while escaping the heat. Special activities, however, will remain paid, just to keep the regular program intact.

This isn't the first time Lyon has embraced its museums to beat the heat. Back in early July, museums opened their doors for free over three days in response to the first heatwave. It's a wonderful reminder that culture can be a gentle weapon against extreme weather.
If you were looking for an excuse to (re)discover the treasures of Lyon's collections, this is the perfect opportunity: dive into history and art… while enjoying a refreshing break. After all, there are a thousand ways to survive the summer, but this one is certainly the most elegant.
