Saturday, November 7, 2026 will mark the end of an era for Lyon's nightlife enthusiasts. Established since 2017 in the slopes of Croix-Rousse, Le Groom has become an unmissable destination over the years for grabbing a drink, discovering artists, or dancing until the break of dawn.

However, the closure won't happen abruptly, as Actu Lyon explains. Starting in September, the team plans to transform Le Groom's final weeks of existence into one big farewell celebration, with the desire to bring together one last time all those who've made the place come alive since its opening.

A Closure Amid Financial Difficulties

Behind this closure lies an economic situation that has become increasingly complicated over several years. The Groom was notably placed under judicial restructuring in September 2024, before being acquired at the end of 2025 by the Rennes-based group Nexhos. At the same time, the group also took over the Slo Hostel des Pentes, located right next door. Following this acquisition, the future of the Groom in its current form seemed already sealed. The group now wants to completely rethink this entire space rather than continue operating the establishment as it exists today.

The closure of the Groom doesn't necessarily mean an end to music at this location. Nexhos is planning a major renovation project and closer integration with the Slo Hostel in order to create a completely reimagined establishment

te; from top to bottom. The final concept hasn't been finalized yet, but musical programming should remain at the heart of the future project. After an extended renovation period, a reopening could happen in late 2027 or early 2028. In the meantime, the venue will experience a genuine blank year before writing a new chapter in its story.

Two months to celebrate the Groom as it deserves

Before finally closing this chapter, the team wants to give the club a send-off worthy of its history. Starting in September, the Groom's iconic evenings should make their return, with concerts and artists familiar to the venue. The goal is clear: to welcome back those who helped build the Groom's identity and to create as many opportunities as possible to raise a glass one last time. On November 7th, the lights will go out on the Groom, but certainly not before one final dance worthy of the occasion.
