This announcement might make you roll your eyes... but in a good way! The newly elected team at the helm of Metropole de Lyon hasn’t wasted any time making an impression. What’s their first big project? A giant cable car connecting the iconic Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière to the very central Place Bellecour in just 4 minutes. A ride that promises to make the funicular feel like a leisurely Sunday stroll.

An Experience Blending Tourism and Futuristic Transportation

Designed as a blend of tourist attraction and mobility solution, this project aims to be revolutionary. Ultra-modern panoramic cabins, with breathtaking views of the Sa...one, the Vieux Lyon and the iconic red roofs… every trip would be like a moving postcard. According to initial information, the cabins could accommodate up to 30 people, with a frequency of every 90 seconds during peak hours. This is sure to attract both busy Lyon residents and tourists in search of the perfect snapshot.

Of course, such an announcement doesn’t please everyone. Amidst heritage defenders, concerned locals, and purists of "historic Lyon," the debate has already begun. Installing pylons in a UNESCO-listed area? Some are crying sacrilege. But on the side of the Metropolis, they stand firm: "Lyon must enter a new era of sustainable and spectacular mobility."

Expected launch… very soon

And this is where it gets almost surreal: the construction could start as early as this summer for a ¡ lıɹʌɐ,p uossıod un à ǝnbsǝɹd ʇıɐɹıoɹɔ uo
