It's official: in the town of Irigny, south of Lyon, the response to the heatwave isn’t just sipping on a bottle of lukewarm water. On July 1st, the municipal council rolled out a measure that is simple, supportive, and truly welcome: entrance to the municipal pool will be free as soon as an orange or red heat alert is issued. It's a wonderfully concrete way to combine prevention, accessibility, and a little summer pleasure—without burning a hole in your wallet.
Free entrance for everyone without exception
In a context where the thermometer is going haywire earlier and earlier, this decision feels like a breath of fresh air. Because yes, when the mercury shoots up and apartments become XXL saunas, the only thing left to do is find water... or the shade of a great municipal plan. The Irigny town hall has, therefore, chosen the way...refreshing, while maintaining a secure environment : minors must be accompanied by an adult, capacity limits strictly respected, and internal regulations closely followed (or almost). Everyone will be able to enjoy this complex featuring a 25m x 10m covered baby pool, divided into 4 swimming lanes.
With the Rhône already shaken by several days of orange alerts in recent weeks, this measure could be put into practice quickly. And honestly, between scorching heat and melted concrete, the idea of a refreshing dive into a clean and well-supervised municipal pool sounds fantastic!
It has everything of a mirage turned into reality. Irigny, an oasis of freshness? This summer, it just might become one.Address: 33 Chem. de Champvillard, 69540 Irigny, France
