In Lyon, we don't let our heritage age without giving it a rejuvenating makeover that truly shines. The proof? A whopping 21 million euros have just been unlocked to renovate five major historical sites. The Théâtre des Célestins, Villa Gillet, the printing museum, the Labor Exchange, and an old fountain perched on Rue des Fantasques will all receive a facelift – in every sense of the word!

The most iconic of all, the Théâtre des Célestins, has been looking a bit down in the dumps in recent years. Tired facade, sneaky leaks, worn-out windows… It was high time to restore its former glory. Even though the last major renovation dates back to 2005, this building definitely deserves a little sprucing up. Good news: the work, scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, won’t require closing its doors. The theatre will keep on thriving, even during renovations, like an actor who stays on stage without ever stepping off.

A Rejuvenating Makeover

Once for the Lyon Heritage

But that’s not all. The Villa Gillet, this gem nestled high up in Croix-Rousse, will take the biggest slice of the pie. Friezes, terraces, woodwork, a theater in the basement: everything is getting some love. The Museum of Printing and the Labor Exchange will see their façades pampered, while the old fountain on Rue des Fantasques will regain its flair.

For the city hall, it’s not just about sprucing up the old. The goal is also territorial, with a desire not to focus efforts solely on the historic center. And of course, we can’t forget about the ecological aspect, especially regarding energy expenses. Yes to restoration, but with eyes on the future!
