This year, around twenty works transformed Lyon into a true luminous theater. Ten of them were competing for the prestigious Trophée des Lumières, organized by ICI Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and the City of Lyon. Among them were "Monday is Ravioli!" (Place des Terreaux), "Lumina" (Saint-Jean Cathedral), "The Heart’s Lumignons - The Island of the Jacobins" (Place des Jacobins), "HDV - 40 Years of Skating in Lyon" (Place Louis Pradel), "The Awakening of Lights" (Tête d'Or Park), "The Garden of Light" (Place Antonin Poncet), and "New Wave" (Saint-Paul Station). With monumental installations, poetic paintings, and technological performances, this 2025 edition once again confirmed the international aura of the event.

"The Persian Trunks", an invitation to travel
The public has embraced the artwork titled "The Persian Trunks" by Thierry Pierras, set up along the banks of the Saône River, right across from the Saint-Jean Cathedral. A mysterious boat, loaded with trunks full of fantastic birds, marine creatures, and symbolic landscapes. Everything is hand-drawn with rare precision, paying tribute to the tradition of sketching and Eastern tales. It's a dreamlike scene that has truly enchanted passersby.

A very tight podium for this edition
With 23% of the votes, "The Persian Trunks" comes out on top, but the competition was fierce. In second place, "The Awakening of the Enlightenment" – the spectacular performance of 500 drones at the Parc de la Tête d'Or – gathers 17% of the votes. Taking the third spot on the podium, "The Garden of Light" at Place Antonin Poncet charms 14% of voters with its dancing and immersive atmosphere.

The trophy was officially presented on Monday, December 8 during a ceremony that brought together several notable figures of the event. Audrey Hénocque, the first deputy mayor of Lyon, artist Caillou Michael Varlet, and Jacques Paté, regional director of France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, were present to celebrate this radiant and profoundly artisanal work, a worthy heir to a drawing craft that is often overlooked in the digital age.
