The group Nosoli, which brings together the brands Decitre and Furet du Nord, has officially been placed into judicial recovery by the commercial court of Lille Metropolis on June 1st. This was an expected step after several days of announcements from management, yet it still raises many questions for the employees and loyal customers of the bookstores.
With nearly 600 employees, 27 bookstores, and a projected revenue of 150 million euros in 2025, the group is a heavyweight in the French cultural landscape. Among its establishments are the Decitre bookstores, three of which are located in Lyon and several others in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
What does the future hold for the Decitre bookstores in Lyon?
For now, no closures have been announced, but employee representatives expect...Next presentation of a restructuring plan. The details remain confidential, even though the unions are already worried about potential social consequences in the coming months. The situation is particularly significant in Lyon. Founded in the capital of the Gauls over a century ago, Decitre is an integral part of the local cultural landscape and has been a reference for generations of readers. Its acquisition by Furet du Nord in 2019 gave rise to a major player in French bookselling, before the creation of the Nosoli group in 2022.

This new challenge highlights the profound changes currently happening in the book market in France. With increasingly aggressive competition from online sales, evolving consumption habits, and a decline in paper reading among certain generations, bookstores must constantly reinvent themselves. To bounce back, Nosoli is already considering several avenues: developing sales of games, stationery, and creative hobbies, strengthening its digital presence, and expanding its activities with communities, universities, and professionals.
