The saga surrounding the redevelopment of the Rhône riverbanks is reaching its conclusion. After suspending work back in March just as the first shovels were about to hit the ground, the Lyon Metropolis has ultimately decided to abandon the Right Bank Project for good.This decision, confirmed to our colleagues from Lyon Capitale, marks the abandonment of a project envisioned under the previous ecologist executive. However, everything seemed ready for its launch until the community chose to hit the pause button at the last minute.
A project aimed at transforming the riverbanks and traffic
The project involved a vast stretch of 2.5 kilometers located between the Lattre-de-Tassigny bridge and the Gallieni bridge. Its scale hinted at several weeks of work and significant disruptions for drivers, residents, and users of the riverbanks.At the time of the project's suspension, the Metropolitan area had highlighted the need to reassess the file in light of its impact on daily travel within the community. The elected officials also wanted to start a new phase of discussions with the City of Lyon before any potential resumption of the work.
