In the heart of the Presqu'île, the Célestins square is bursting with color after two months of construction. Out with the old oak flooring installed in 2014, which has aged like a weary Sunday evening. Now, it’s time for a moso bamboo surface, known for its strength and resistance to humidity, with a bold promise: planks guaranteed for 25 years.
Behind this change of material, there’s also a heritage logic. The City of Lyon had to meet the requirements of the Architects of Buildings of France while staying true to the original vision of landscape designer Michel Desvignes. The result: this new ground still evokes the flooring of the Célestins theater right next door, while adding a modern and durable touch.
Safety and comfort at the heart of the project
The previous floor had become quite a concern for the locals, especially due to its dangerous condition, especially for children. With this new bamboo structure set on a solid decking system, the area clearly gains in comfort and safety. It's just the right spot to relax, wander around, or let the kids run free without stress.
In just two months, the teams from the company Idverde have tackled the operation with gusto, bringing together eleven people to completely dismantle and then rebuild the floor. A tight schedule for a result that should last for a long time.
