History repeats itself in the neighborhood of Croix-Rousse! During a construction site in the 4th district of Lyon last March, the workers of the Coiro construction company made the discovery of a large rock block one meter high and wide and weighing at least 3 tons. A discovery that is reminiscent of the authentic Gros Caillou, now the emblem of Croix-Rousse, discovered in 1861 and 140,000 years old. While this one is far from the 20 tons of the original rock, it still excited the entire neighborhood and residents who tried to give it a name, "Le Petit Caillou", "Le Moyen Caillou", or even "Le Gros Gadin"...
A rock saved by the general mobilization
Except that the rock was on the verge of being destroyed, as the Coiro company announced its intention not to keep it if the city of Lyon did not want it. Fortunately, heritage preservation associations quickly mobilized to save it. Thanks to their pressure, the city of Lyon finally decided to keep it.
According to a first analysis carried out on the rock, this could be another important witness to the history of the city, whose origin may be the same as the Big Rock, a erratic block transported by the glaciers of the Alps.

But where will this block land? According to information gathered by Actu Lyon, the stone could be placed in a location that might be Ninon Vallin square, in the 4th district, and without a base. The final decision should be made very soon. So a little more patience is needed...
