Renovation work has begun in the North square of Bachut. Located right in front of the iconic Maison de la Danse, this emblematic square in the 8th arrondissement is getting a fabulous makeover. Goodbye asphalt, farewell cars: the city hall has launched a bold greening project. And this isn’t just a splash of green for looks—we're talking about a true urban renaissance.

From concrete to loungers: a whole new life

The 8,500 m² space will soon welcome 100 new trees, loungers, picnic tables, and even a dog area. It’s going to have the vibe of an urban park, designed for strolling, chilling, and breathing easy. This new living space aims to create a more relaxed city, where residents can reclaim public areas, far from exhaust fumes and sad parking zones.

See you in March… at the Pina Bausch Esplanade

The delivery is scheduled for March 2026, and the square will be renamed Pina Bausch Esplanade. A beautiful artistic nod to the famous German choreographer, perfectly resonating with the House of Dance that borders the square. Culture, greenery, and urban well-being come together in a project designed to last, redefining public space with poetry and pragmatism.

This project is part of the overarching greening strategy led by the municipality.

After the Place des Terreaux, Sathonay, and the Cours Lafayette, it's now the 8th district's turn to join the green dance. With these new practices, Lyon continues its transformation into a softer, cooler... and clearly more enjoyable place to live.
