Doors to Avoid the Hassles
The metro is getting a makeover! By 2035, significant changes will be made to Lyon's red line to make it smoother and easier to use. No more unexpected interruptions from track intrusions and accidents, thanks to new barriers that will be installed along the platforms! Right now, these incidents account for 50% of the disruptions on line A. With the installation of glass platform doors, accidental falls or sneaky folks trying to cross the tracks will be thing of the past. Fewer accidents, fewer delays, and more peace of mind for everyone using the metro.
A Boosted and Automated Metro
Another exciting update: line A will be gradually automated, following the successful model of line D. The goal? To streamline the traffic and make the metro more responsive and frequent. Additionally, 20 new trains will join the fleet, increasing capacity by 50% by 2040. That means a little more breathing room during rush hours!
Big projects will kick off next year with the renovation of three stations and the existing trains. All of this comes with an estimated budget of 75 million euros. After line A, TCL is already looking into deploying platform doors on lines B and D. A safer, more modern, and more efficient metro—sounds appealing, right? You’ll need to be a little patient, but the journey towards the metro of the future has officially begun!
