Behind its nineteenth-century facade, the former Anne-de-Beaujeu hotel has been waiting for years to reclaim its former vibrant atmosphere. Located at 28 rue de la République in the heart of Beaujeu, the establishment closed its doors in the 2010s following its previous operator's bankruptcy. Since then, this history-laden building has remained abandoned.
The town of Beaujeu, which became the property owner in 2012, never gave up on the idea of bringing it back to life. And the project just received a major boost by being selected for the 2026 famous Patrimoine Lottery. A distinction backed by Stéphane Bern's Mission Patrimoine that should help ease the bill for a project estimated at nearly 3 million euros.
12 rooms and a restaurant to revive Beaujeu
The objective is clear: transform this former abandoned address into a new hotel-restaurant capable of attracting both tou
people as hospitable as the residents of Beaujolais. After its restoration, the building will welcome twelve rooms as well as an independent hotel apartment. On the ground floor, a restaurant with around forty seats will complete the offering.In the evening, the establishment will focus on bistronomic cuisine, while at lunch, a more accessible formula will allow guests to enjoy seasonal products without breaking the bank. A philosophy that should give the place real vitality throughout the year. To run this future venue, a trio was selected following a call for projects. Clémentine Michel will oversee the hotel operations, Emmanuelle Fourriere will manage the restaurant, and Guillaume Ballandras, a local son, will be leading the kitchen.
3 million euros to restore the building's charm
The project promises to be massive, with one ambition: restore the hotel without erasing its history. The municipality is working with an architect specializing in heritage to recover as much as possible the original appearance and identityoriginal features of the building. Several sources of funding have already been secured to launch this transformation. The State notably contributed 700,000 euros, while the Rhône Department and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region are also participating in the project. The municipality is investing on its side and has taken out a long-term loan.
The financial assistance obtained through the Heritage Lottery will be known in December 2026. A local fundraising campaign could also take place with the Heritage Foundation. In short, the financial puzzle is still being put together, but this time, the project is well and truly on track. The first major work should begin as early as December 2026, following an asbestos removal phase currently underway. If the schedule is respected, the former Anne-de-Beaujeu hotel could reopen its doors before the 2028 tourist season.
