Looking for a refreshing getaway just 2 hours from Lyon? Head to the Cascade de Cerveyrieu, an impressive 70-meter waterfall located in Artemare, in the Ain department. This waterfall, perched above the hamlet of Cerveyrieu, offers a natural spectacle with its potholes, basins, and canyons.

Around 2 hours from Lyon, the majestic Cascade de Cerveyrieu offers a wonderful visual spectacle and is part of the "geological curiosities of Valromey", labeled as "Sensitive Natural Areas" by the Ain Department in 2017. A label that guarantees the preservation of biodiversity and the development of the site to welcome visitors while respecting its fragile ecosystem.

A waterfall offering a breathtaking panorama

To admire the waterfall from above, simply take the D31, "under Chassin" between Champagne and Don. From there, you can enjoy an exceptional panorama of the Colombier and the Alps, with the turbulent waters of the Séran winding below. Classified as a first-category trout fishing river, this river adds a bucolic touch to this already idyllic setting.

For cycling enthusiasts, the circuit of geological curiosities in Valromey is a 37 km loop that can be done on a hybrid bike, mountain bike, or gravel bike. Starting from Artemare, this route will take you to discover the Cerveyrieu waterfall, the Thurignin Gorges, the source of Groin, and the Sugar Loaf rock formation. A perfect itinerary to combine sports and geological exploration!

This 14 km trail starting from Artemare will lead you to the base of the Grand Colombier, passing through vineyards and by the Séran river. As you make your way, you'll come across the beautiful Cerveyrieu waterfall, as well as the Thurignin gorges and the Fierloz massif. It's a diverse route that will surely thrill nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts alike.
