It's a national first, and it's taking place right in the heart of Lyon. On March 3rd, the furniture and decoration brand Camif will open its very first physical store at 4 rue Jean de Tournes, in the 2nd district of Lyon, just a stone's throw from the Place des Jacobins. It's a strategic location for this emblematic French furniture brand, which has long been focused on online sales.
Known for its furniture and decorative objects made in France and Europe, Camif is stepping from the digital world into reality with a space designed for seeing, touching, and testing. In short, it's all about turning a click into a tangible love at first sight.
From a militant cooperative to a player in responsible e-commerce
The story of Camif reads like an entrepreneurial novel full of twists and turns. Founded in 1947 in Niort, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the brand started as a cooperative launched by Maif, exclusively for the staff of the national education system. It experienced great success before getting hit hard by the rise of e-commerce in the 2000s.
Bankrupt in 2008, quickly bought out and strategically repositioned: Camif has become a specialist in online furniture sales, with a focus on local and responsible production. Today, the brand aims to go even further by developing a network of physical stores, with about ten openings planned by 2029.
An immersive decor experience right in the city center
The Lyon store marks a turning point in the brand's strategy. In this new space, customers will be able to explore a selection of sofas, home textiles, and tableware, all chosen for their quality and European manufacturing. The idea is simple: to allow customers to try out the products, feel the materials, and take their finds home immediately.
At a time when you can order your sofa in three clicks without ever having sat on it, Camif bets on the return to the physical experience. And Lyon, a city that loves design and responsible consumption, could very well become the real-life laboratory for this new chapter.
